The Daily Reading: Jesus is the Bread of Life. Eat and Be Satisified

Reading 1Acts 5:34-42
Responsorial Psalm Ps 27:1, 4, 13-14
Gospel Jn 6:1-15

Excerpts:

Psalms 27:13-14

13
But I believe I shall enjoy the LORD’S goodness in the land of the living.
14
Wait for the LORD, take courage; be stouthearted, wait for the LORD!

John 6:11-15

11
Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed them to those who were reclining, and also as much of the fish as they wanted.
12
When they had had their fill, he said to his disciples, “Gather the fragments left over, so that nothing will be wasted.”
13
So they collected them, and filled twelve wicker baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves that had been more than they could eat.
14
When the people saw the sign he had done, they said, “This is truly the Prophet, the one who is to come into the world.”
15
Since Jesus knew that they were going to come and carry him off to make him king, he withdrew again to the mountain alone.

Reflection: The excerpts I chose from the readings today talk about receiving goodness and contentment from the Lord, our Father. In the Gospel, it mentions Jesus turning a scarce amount of bread into more than enough bread for everyone. Not as obvious, the core message is that Jesus is the bread of life and who does not eat of Him will not be satisfied. But, the believers/followers did not understand that message. They saw that the bread was a miracle and they wanted to make Him into a hero or king based on this miracle. As He did not mean the message or symbol to be understood like that, He left from them, so they would not further misunderstand.
