Catholic Daily Reading: Make Jesus Your First Priority

Reading 1 Acts 6:8-15
Responsorial Psalm Ps 119:23-24, 26-27, 29-30
Gospel Jn 6:22-29

Excerpts:

Acts 6:8

8
Now Stephen, filled with grace and power, was working great wonders and signs among the people.

Psalm 19:23-24

23
Though princes meet and talk against me, your servant studies your laws.
24
Your decrees are my delight; they are my counselors.

John 6:26-29

26
Jesus answered them and said, “Amen, amen, I say to you, you are looking for me not because you saw signs but because you ate the loaves and were filled.
27
Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, 15 which the Son of Man will give you. For on him the Father, God, has set his seal.”
28
So they said to him, “What can we do to accomplish the works of God?”
29
Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent.”

Reflection: These excerpts from the reading today, show me that we should focus on Jesus all the time and look for Him in everything in our lives, for example, the wonders and signs through Stephen in the first reading and the abundant food that was produced as described in the Gospel. The entire reading from Psalms today exemplifies how to focus on Jesus. As said in the Gospel, look deeper than what we see in life–remember they come from God. In the end, if we look for Him and think about Him, everyday and in every aspect our lives, He will be the priority in our lives, which is what He truly wants.
