Catholic Daily Readings from the Holy Bible: His Flock is Well-tended

Reading 1 Acts 13:14, 43-52
Responsorial Psalm Ps 100:1-2, 3, 5
Reading 2 Rev 7:9, 14b-17
Gospel John 10:27-30

Psalm 100:3

3
Know that the LORD is God, our maker to whom we belong, whosepeople we are, God’s well-tended flock.

Revelation 7:10

10
They cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation comes from our God, who is seated on the throne, and from the Lamb.”

John 10:27-30

27
My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
28
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand.
29
My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one can take them out of the Father’s hand.
30
The Father and I are one.”

Reflection: These excerpts show me we must trust the Lord, as His sheep; He will look after us. We are well-tended, and He will not lose not one of us who have Faith in Him. As He tends to us, we should also ask Him to help us tend to everyone in our lives, so they may have faith, love, and hope in Him, so they may be well-tended. Have faith as you tend to everyone in your life, because you are asking for God’s help to do his Will, just as Paul and Barnabas did successfully in the first reading today.

Catholic Daily Reading from the Holy Bible: Choose God and Live Your Life By It

Reading 1 Acts 9:31-42
Responsorial Psalm Ps 116:12-13, 14-15, 16-17
Gospel John 6:60-69

Excerpts:

Psalm 116:12

12
How can I repay the LORD for all the good done for me?

John 6:60-61, 63, 65-69

60
Then many of his disciples who were listening said, “This saying is hard; who can accept it?”
61
Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this, he said to them, “Does this shock you?

63
It is the spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

65
And he said, “For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father.”
66
As a result of this, many (of) his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him.
67
Jesus then said to the Twelve, “Do you also want to leave?”
68
Simon Peter answered him, “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.
69
We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.”

Reflection: The excerpts today show me that we are called to make a choice. If we choose God, we should show Him by our actions and not just our words. How will we show God that we choose Him today and everyday?

Praise God. Help Others.

I thought this story was a good way of showing how to ask from God.

I asked God to take away my habit.

God said, No.

It is not for me to take away,
but for you to give it up.

I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.
God said, No.
His spirit is whole, his body is only temporary.

I asked God to grant me patience.

God said, No. Patience is a byproduct of tribulations;
it isn’t granted, it is learned.

I asked God to give me happiness..
God said, No.
I give you blessings; Happiness is up to you.

I asked God to spare me pain.
God said, No.
Suffering draws you apart from
worldly cares
and brings you closer to me.

I asked God to make my spirit grow.
God said, No.
You must grow on your own,
but I will prune you to make you fruitful.

I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life.

God said, No.
I will give you life,
so that you may enjoy all things.

I asked God to help me LOVE others, as much as He loves me.
God said… Ahhhh,
finally you have the idea.

Catholic Daily Reading from the Holy Bible: Have Faith in the Holy Eucharist

Reading 1 Acts 9:1-20
Responsorial Psalm Ps 117:1bc, 2
Gospel Jn 6:52-59

I have no excerpts today, though there are many powerful and important verses in the readings today. More importantly, I think are the whole stories they tell. In the book of Acts, it reads like a current movie of a life changing event, in which Saul, who persecutes Jesus, is shown the Truth. The Responsorial Psalm today refers to my mission statement of this blog, Mark 16:15, Go out to the wold and spread the Gospel to every creature.

The Gospel again speaks about the Flesh and Blood of Jesus as being True food and True drink and whoever eats of His Flesh and drinks of His Blood has eternal life. We, as Catholics, must muster our Faith every week, when we participate in the Holy Eucharist. We must find the Faith and belief that the Holy Eucharist is truly the Flesh of Jesus. Then, we must carry that faith into the world knowing we have His Flesh in us and is a part of us, and we should also have the Faith to see Jesus in others.

Catholic Daily Reading from the Bible: True Nourishment

Reading 1 Acts 8:26-40
Responsorial Psalm Ps 66:8-9, 16-17, 20
Gospel John 6:44-51

Excerpts:

Acts 8:30-31, 36, 38

30
Philip ran up and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?”
31
He replied, “How can I, unless someone instructs me?” So he invited Philip to get in and sit with him.
36
As they traveled along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “Look, there is water. What is to prevent my being baptized?”
38
Then he ordered the chariot to stop, and Philip and the eunuch both went down into the water, and he baptized him.

John 6:47-51

47
Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.
48
I am the bread of life.
49
Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died;
50
this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die.
51
I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”

Reflection: I chose the excerpts from the book of Acts just because I feel they are important verses as they describe baptism. The Gospel today is a beautiful passage from Jesus own Words. They are straightforward and literal. He is the only true nourishment for body, mind, and soul.

Catholic Daily Readin from the Holy Bible: Recieve the Bread of Life and Rejoice!

Reading 1 Acts 8:1b-8
Responsorial Psalm Ps 66:1-3a, 4-5, 6-7a
Gospel John 6 35-44

Excerpts:

Acts 8:1,3

1
Now Saul was consenting to his execution. On that day, there broke out a severe persecution of the church in Jerusalem, and all were scattered throughout the countryside of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.

3
Saul, meanwhile, was trying to destroy the church; entering house after house and dragging out men and women, he handed them over for imprisonment.

John 6:35, 39

35
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.

39
And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it (on) the last day.

Reflection: The excerpts from the first reading describe the persecution of christian believers in the those days and the suffering they endured for their faith, for our faith. The excerpts from the Gospel remind me that God is our main source of true life; He is the Bread of Life. Let Him be my focus, and rest assured, all other things will happen according to His WIll.

Catholic Daily Reading from the Holy Bible: The Only Food that Will Truly Satisfy You

Reading 1 Acts 7:51—8:1a
Responsorial Psalm Ps 31:3cd-4, 6 and 7b and 8a, 17 and 21ab
Gospel Jn 6:30-35

Excerpts:

Psalms 31:2-3

2
In you, LORD, I take refuge; let me never be put to shame. In your justice deliver me;
3
incline your ear to me; make haste to rescue me! Be my rock of refuge, a stronghold to save me.

John 6:32-35

32
So Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave the bread from heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.
33
For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
34
So they said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.”
35
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.

Reflection: These excerpts reiterate for me that I must focus on God. He is the only food that will satisfy my hunger and thirst in this life. I’ve heard so many people say they’re never satisfied despite that they have everything they could ever hope for. They continue to look elsewhere for gratification or purpose. These excerpts from the reading today show me that unless I eat and drink the bread of life, who is Jesus, that I may never find true contentment. Look to satisfy your spirit, your soul; all material things are temporary and consumable. If I hope for everlasting contentment, why would I look to things that do not last forever?
